Nagpur: Ambazari police rescued three women, including a 16-year-old girl and a 70-year-old widow, who attempted suicide in Futala and Ambazari Lakes in separate incidents within a span of just four hours on Wednesday morning. Later, police reunited the women with their families.Alert passers-by, patrolling cops, swimmers and divers played a crucial role in the rescues.The first incident occurred around 5am when a 24-year-old woman from Godhni prepared to jump in Futala Lake. An alert youngster pulled her back from the edge and immediately alerted the police. Constables on patrolling duty rushed to the spot and rescued the woman, who insisted on ending her life due to personal reasons. After sustained efforts, cops managed to calm her.Barely three hours later, at about 8.45am, a 16-year-old girl from Sitabuldi attempted to end her life in Ambazari Lake. Ambazari police personnel pulled her back to safety and ensured she received necessary support.Within the next 20 minutes, alert local residents, swimmers and divers prevented a 70-year-old widow from taking a plunge in Ambazari Lake. She was handed over to police. It is learnt that after losing her husband a few years ago, the elderly woman had been living with her unmarried daughter, who is in her thirties. She tried to end her life a couple of times in the past too, said sources.
