Some homes are designed to blend into their surroundings. Others are created to challenge the very idea of what a home should look like. In Buffalo, New York, the Triangle House belongs firmly to the latter category. Conceived by artist Ben Perrone as a highly personal experiment in form and function, the distinctive residence has once again landed on the market, this time at $479,000. According to Realtor, the property has undergone several price changes since it first appeared for sale in 2023.
A house shaped by an artist
The story of the Triangle House is as unconventional as its silhouette. Perrone, an artist whose career has included exhibiting work across Europe and later exploring woodworking and graphic arts, eventually turned his attention to creating a home that reflected his artistic sensibilities, states the Realtor report.Domus Archive notes that Perrone had previously lived in spaces ranging from a solar house to a warehouse before creating the triangular residence in Buffalo. The design was developed with architect Kevin Connors of eco_logic STUDIO, resulting in an approximately 2,000-square-foot open-plan home. The triangle was more than an aesthetic choice. For Perrone, the shape offered an unusual sense of openness, with the rooms appearing to expand depending on where one stands within them.
An interior full of unexpected details
Inside, the home’s unconventional geometry continues through a series of bespoke elements. Realtor reports that the roughly 2,403-square-foot residence includes an open-concept layout, a striking cantilevered staircase and a custom triangular dining table designed specifically for the space. The kitchen adds another layer of personality, combining a retro aesthetic with practical features such as a repurposed school sink and built-in oven.Perhaps the most surprising feature is the glass elevator, designed with a time-capsule quality that connects the home’s levels. The elevator and staircase lead toward a generous primary suite, which can accommodate a sitting area or home office. The residence also includes three bathrooms and a solar-panel system, combining the artistic vision with energy-conscious features.
From $760,000 to $479,000
The Triangle House first entered the market at $760,000 in April 2023, according to Realtor. Its asking price was reduced by $60,000 only two months later before the listing was withdrawn in July 2023.The property resurfaced in July 2026 at $550,000, was removed from the market in September and has now returned at a considerably lower $479,000.Realtor reports that Perrone had spent approximately $800,000 on construction. Domus Archive previously noted that the artist eventually decided to sell after several years in the home, with age and health prompting a move to a smaller residence. Furnishings and artworks were not included in the original asking price, although they could be negotiated separately.
More than a home
Beyond its unusual architecture, the property has practical possibilities. A heated and air-conditioned garage was originally conceived as Perrone’s art studio, while the surrounding fieldstone patio adds outdoor space. The residence could therefore appeal to another creative professional looking for a private studio-home arrangement. Realtor also notes its potential as a rental property, although short-term rental use would require the appropriate approvals. Its location adds another dimension to the property’s appeal. Situated within Buffalo’s broader Golden Horseshoe region, the home places its future owner within reach of Niagara Falls and Toronto while offering the character and affordability associated with the Buffalo market. For a house that began as one artist’s unconventional dream, the Triangle House now offers someone else the chance to inhabit a piece of architectural individuality, at a price considerably different from where its journey on the market began.Images Courtesy: Domus Archive and istock
