Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna, has issued an orange alert for most parts of Bihar, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next three days, even as recent showers have brought respite from heat and humidity across the state.Despite the recent wet spell, the state continues to face a 38% monsoon rainfall deficit, with Patna recording a 51% shortfall.According to IMD Patna, favourable conditions created by two cyclonic circulations the monsoon trough passing through Bihar are likely to trigger widespread rainfall across the state over the next four days.Meteorologist Kumar Gaurav said south Bihar districts, including Gaya, Nawada and Arwal, could receive higher rainfall than other parts of the state.The IMD bulletin issued on Wednesday said maximum temperatures are likely to dip by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next two days before rising by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the following four days.Gaurav said the prevailing overcast conditions were typical of the monsoon season. “Low clouds form due to high humidity and bring rainfall. These moving dark clouds generally do not result in intense thunderstorms or lightning activity,” he said.The IMD has issued an orange alert for Thursday and Friday for south-west and south-central Bihar, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. Heavy rainfall is likely in Buxar, Aurangabad, Gaya and Rohtas districts, while East Champaran, Kishanganj and Sitamarhi may experience very heavy rainfall.A yellow alert has also been issued for several districts, including Araria, Katihar and Siwan. However, districts such as Siwan, Supaul and Lakhisarai no longer show a rainfall deficit following recent showers.Gaurav said temperatures could rise again once skies clear. While humidity levels may decline, the increase in temperature could make weather conditions uncomfortable for residents.
