Dibrugarh: Authorities demolished illegal structures in Naliapool on Thursday as part of Dibrugarh’s intensified campaign against encroachment.Excavators razed houses and shops allegedly built without authorisation on govt or public land along AT Road. The operation targeted residential and commercial encroachments that emerged over the years.Dibrugarh East circle officer Samujjal Borah supervised the drive alongside Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) officials and police personnel. The operation concluded without incident.“These structures were built illegally on land that did not belong to the occupants. We had issued prior notices, and today’s drive was carried out strictly as per due process,” Borah said.A senior DMC official said: “Naliapool has seen unchecked encroachment for years. This drive is aimed at reclaiming public space and ensuring planned urban development in the area.”The operation was part of a wider crackdown that has gathered momentum since Dibrugarh was projected as Assam’s second capital. The DMC has recently targeted unauthorised structures on public land, footpaths and govt plots.Officials said similar drives would be conducted in other encroachment-hit areas as the administration seeks to upgrade the city’s infrastructure.
