Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Tuesday demolished an illegally constructed religious structure in the Sarkhej area of the city. Those responsible for upkeep of the structure allegedly ignored civic notices, broke official seals and resumed using the premises despite warnings.The demolition was carried out by the estate department of AMC’s South West Zone under police protection. A total of 2,354 sq ft area was freed of illegal construction during the drive, officials said.According to AMC officials, the unauthorised religious structure was built on a portion of AMC plot located on the road connecting Cadila Circle and Sarkhej Railway Crossing in the Sarkhej ward.Officials said the occupants neither complied with the notice nor removed the construction. Instead, they allegedly broke the official seal and resumed using the premises, prompting the civic body to initiate demolition proceedings.
