Kanpur: A civil supplies department team raided two shops on Station Road, Fatehgarh, in Farrukhabad and busted an illegal racket of refilling cooking gas from domestic cylinders into smaller cylinders to earn profits. A case against two people was registered under the Essential Commodities Act.Supply inspectors Amit Chaudhary and Abhishek Mishra jointly raided the shop operating below Khatu Shyam Lodge and Hotel, located in the Bholepur area of Station Road, Fatehgarh. As the team arrived, Raghav and his associate, who were present at the shop, fled from the spot carrying one cylinder each.The officials recovered a total of six domestic gas cylinders, two re-fillers, and one small gas cylinder of 5 kilograms. The recovered cylinders and re-fillers were kept safely in the custody of the owner of the gas service.Local people informed the officials that gas was being filled from large cylinders into smaller cylinders at the rate of Rs 180 per kilogram. The investigation revealed that illegal refilling was carried out by transferring gas from domestic cylinders into smaller cylinders. Officials said such illegal refilling during a gas crisis was a danger to common consumers and promoted black marketing.District supply officer Surendra Kumar Yadav said that this was a violation of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Supply and Distribution Regulation Order and an offence under section 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act,1955. He said a detailed report of the case was sent to the district magistrate, and after receiving permission, a case was registered at Kotwali Fatehgarh against Raghav, who was present at the establishment, and Rishabh, who operated a shop below Khatu Shyam Lodge. He said that raid operations will continue to curb such activities.SHO Ranvijay Singh said action was being taken after registering a case.
