Vadodara: A joint team of the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) and Anand SOG seized 1,800 tablets of Alprazolam, besides 40 abortion kits and 20 pregnancy test kits, from two men allegedly transporting the drugs from Ahmedabad to Vadodara on a motorcycle on the national highway.The operation was carried out late on August 18 when the team intercepted motorcycle GJ-01-XD-8087 travelling towards Vadodara. The two accused, Darshan Goklani and Dileep M Thakor, were arrested and the suspected contraband seized.Officials said the seized Alprazolam tablets are controlled under the NDPS Act. The abortion kits, described as Schedule H drug kits, were also found to be stored without the required licence or valid purchase bills. During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that they had procured the stock from one Vishal Thakkar of Ahmedabad.Anand drug inspector P M Makwana was present during the seizure and examined the medicines on the spot. Samples of the seized abortion kits are being sent to the Food and Drug Laboratory in Vadodara for analysis, including testing for Mifepristone and Misoprostol. Anand SOG has launched a probe to trace the supply chain and identify the key persons behind the racket.
