Ilhan Omar’s husband, political consultant Tim Mynett, has spoken out after federal agents raided the Minnesota congresswoman’s Washington, DC, residence as part of a criminal investigation into her immigration records, while also addressing questions about her reported absence from public view.Mynett was seen leaving the couple’s rented home on Wednesday to walk their golden Labrador, Teddy, and later to take out the trash, according to the New York Post. He was also seen accompanying one of Omar’s staffers out of the house.Asked by Fox News Digital whether Omar had left the country amid rumours following the raid, Mynett expressed frustration with reporters and said their presence was disturbing neighbours.“You guys are annoying the hell out of all the neighbors around here, man,” he said. The developments come amid an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) into Omar’s immigration paperwork. Federal agents searched her home on Monday, reportedly seizing her cellphone and passport, along with other items, according to US media reports. The investigation is examining questions surrounding Omar’s age at the time her family arrived in the US and the circumstances under which she obtained citizenship. The precise scope of the criminal investigation has not been publicly established.Mynett has maintained that he has no concerns about the investigation. Speaking to Fox News Digital earlier this week, he said Omar came to the US as a child refugee.“My wife came here when she was 12 years old as a child war refugee,” Mynett said. “No concerns.”

Omar’s relatives reportedly subpoenaed

The investigation has also reportedly extended to Omar’s relatives, with at least two family members receiving subpoenas, according to Fox News Digital. One of them was identified in reports as her sister, Sahra Noor.Omar, who was born in Somalia, arrived in the US in 1995 with her family after fleeing the country’s conflict. She became a naturalised US citizen in 2000.Questions have been raised about whether her age was accurately recorded in immigration documents. Reports have also highlighted a change to her birth year in records maintained by the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library, from 1981 to 1982.The allegations have drawn renewed scrutiny from Republicans, including President Donald Trump, who has previously questioned Omar’s citizenship and accused her of wrongdoing. Omar has rejected the allegations and described the investigations as politically motivated.

Financial disclosures under scrutiny

Separately, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro has confirmed that her office is investigating Omar’s financial disclosures, adding another dimension to the scrutiny surrounding the congresswoman. The issue gained attention after Omar’s 2024 congressional financial disclosure listed business interests associated with Mynett, including a winery and a venture capital advisory firm, with a combined reported value running into millions of dollars.Omar’s office subsequently amended the filing, saying the original disclosure had mistakenly reflected the total equity of the businesses rather than Mynett’s individual ownership interests. It also said the initial figures did not account for liabilities. In the amended records, Mynett’s ownership interests in both businesses were listed at zero dollars, according to reports.Trump questioned the discrepancy in a social media post on Tuesday, asking how Omar’s reported net worth could have reached as high as USD 30 million before being revised substantially downward.Officials have indicated that the inquiry into Omar’s financial disclosures is separate from the search of her residence. Omar has denied wrongdoing in connection with the allegations.
