Leh, Sep 25: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh and the Indian Institute of Management Jammu (IIM Jammu) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing an IIM Jammu Satellite Campus at Leh.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. The Leh campus will offer a four-year BBA (Hons.) programme, with an initial intake of 60 students. The programme is scheduled to commence by the end of October 2026.
The infrastructure for the satellite campus has been established within two months, according to the administration. The proposed programme has also received considerable interest, with around 600 candidates expressing interest against the 60 available seats.
Speaking on the occasion, LG Vinai Kumar Saxena said the establishment of the IIM Jammu Satellite Campus would mark a turning point in the higher education system of Ladakh.
He said the campus could develop into a centre for knowledge, innovation, entrepreneurship and professional development, creating additional academic and career opportunities for the youth of the Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor said students from Ladakh seeking quality management and professional education have often been required to move outside the Union Territory, resulting in additional expenditure on travel, accommodation, food, books and other necessities.
He said the availability of management education within Ladakh would help reduce these difficulties and provide students, particularly those from remote areas and families with limited financial resources, an opportunity to pursue their academic aspirations closer to home.
The administration said discussions with IIM Jammu for starting undergraduate courses at Leh began less than two months ago, following which the campus infrastructure was made ready for the commencement of the programme next month.
