The Indian Institute of Management Jammu and the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh have signed an MoU to establish the IIM Jammu Leh Campus, expanding access to management education and creating an ecosystem for entrepreneurship, innovation, research and skill development in the region.
As part of the initial academic offering, IIM Jammu will introduce a four-year BBA (Hons) programme at the proposed Leh campus, with an initial intake of 60 students for the 2026-27 academic year.
The campus is planned as more than an academic centre, with programmes and activities spanning entrepreneurship, business acceleration, innovation and incubation, executive education, skill development, research and consultancy.
The partnership also envisages career counselling, faculty development, institutional mentoring and customised capacity-building programmes for government officials and other stakeholders.
Under the MoU, IIM Jammu will provide academic and professional expertise in areas including public policy, monitoring and evaluation, policy advocacy, community development, action research and capacity building for initiatives undertaken by the UT Administration.
The Ladakh administration will facilitate infrastructure for the campus, including a transit campus, academic and hostel facilities, faculty and staff accommodation, furnishing and transport. The proposed facilities are expected to include smart classrooms, digital learning and hybrid teaching infrastructure, along with video-conferencing facilities.
Focus on entrepreneurship and innovation
A key component of the partnership is the development of an entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem in Leh. IIM Jammu will work with the UT Administration and other stakeholders on entrepreneurship awareness, mentoring, business development, innovation and incubation.
The institute also plans to bring its Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Skill Development to Leh and explore business accelerator initiatives for entrepreneurs, startups and small and family-owned enterprises.
The MoU establishes a long-term framework for collaboration between IIM Jammu and the Ladakh administration across management education, entrepreneurship, research, innovation and institutional capacity building.
