Bengaluru: The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore) and Taipei Computer Association (TCA) have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore collaboration in artificial intelligence, electronics, smart manufacturing, smart cities and cybersecurity.
Signed at Electronica India 2026, the LOI is intended to lay the groundwork for a future Memorandum of Understanding covering information and communication technology, the digital economy, science and technology, and innovation.
The proposed collaboration will include knowledge sharing, policy dialogues, seminars and conferences, business matchmaking and delegation exchanges between Taiwan and Karnataka.
The agreement brings IIIT-Bangalore’s academic and research capabilities into closer engagement with Taiwan’s technology and manufacturing ecosystem. The proposed areas span both emerging digital technologies and hardware-oriented sectors, including electronics and smart manufacturing.
Prof. Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT-Bangalore, said the proposed areas of collaboration offer scope for knowledge exchange and jointly developed initiatives, adding that the institute would look to take the engagement forward through a future MoU.
Hsin-Lun Tsai, Manager, TCA, said the association would seek to connect IIIT-Bangalore’s academic innovation with Taiwan’s hardware manufacturing and semiconductor ecosystem, while supporting Taiwanese technology companies looking to expand their presence in India.
Stephen Hsu, Director General, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai, said Taiwan’s strengths in ICT, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing and Karnataka’s technology and innovation ecosystem offered complementary areas for cooperation.
The LOI does not constitute a final MoU or specify individual projects. It provides a framework for the two organisations to identify mutually agreed areas of cooperation before a proposed MoU is developed.
