Pune: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) plans to launch a pilot AI-driven learning module for one of its courses within the next six months. If successful, the initiative will be scaled up across all applicable courses, vice-chancellor Uma Kanjilal said on Tuesday.Speaking to the media, Kanjilal noted that technological advancements are expected to personalise learning pathways, automate counselling support for students, and assist faculty members. She said the university plans to use indigenously developed AI and is currently in discussions with IITs regarding its implementation.Kanjilal emphasised that strict monitoring mechanisms will be in place to address issues such as bias, hallucinations, and other AI-related challenges. “We cannot leave everything to AI. There will be built-in moderation mechanisms, and both students and staff will be able to flag problematic content,” she said.She also stated that the newly set-up studio infrastructure at the Pune regional centre will be utilised to record videos and broadcast live, interactive sessions in Marathi through IGNOU-operated Swayam Prabha channels.
