HYDERABAD: A 41-year-old head constable on guard duty at the Telangana State Police headquarters died by suicide in the barracks during the early hours of Thursday. Although the constable did not mention any reason for taking the extreme step in his suicide note, police suspect financial difficulties may have led to his death.The deceased was identified as V Swamy, a native of Chityal in Nalgonda district. He was a head constable with the VIII Battalion of the Telangana Special Police (TGSP) in Kondapur.Swamy was deployed at the DGP’s office in Lakdikapul along with a team of TGSP personnel on guard duty. At around 5.30 am, he allegedly shot himself in the barracks using a service pistol issued to the team.In a suicide note found among his belongings, Swamy wrote that he loved his family and asked people not to harass them.Senior police officers said Swamy had taken loans to build a house and buy a plot of land.“We suspect that financial mismanagement might have caused him to die by suicide,” a senior police officer said.Saifabad police registered a case and shifted the body to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for a postmortem examination. A forensic team also collected evidence from the barracks.
