Hyderabad: Ahead of the World Photography Day on Aug 19, Hyderabad’s photographer community is in focus, with landscapes, portraits, streets, architecture and slices of everyday life unfolding across the walls of the State Gallery of Art in Madhapur.Inaugurated on Sunday, the exhibition — “43 Frames” — brings moments captured by 43 Hyderabad-based photographers together, each offering a distinct way of seeing the world.Presented by the Hyderabad Centre for Photography (HCP), these photos were selected from nearly 400 submissions.Explaining the thought behind the process, Aquin Mathews, HCP director, said: “These photographs offer us a glimpse into the individual ways photographers observe, interpret and respond to the world around them. For us, the exhibition is as much about the photographers and their voices as it is about the photographs themselves.”The diversity is reflected not only in the subjects on display but also in the stories behind the photographs. For Sri Devi S, her image of an elephant drinking milk from a bottle was about being ready for a moment that lasted only a few seconds. “I took this photograph in Nairobi, where there is an elephant orphanage. It was a split-second moment, and I had to capture it just as it happened.”Gokul Krishna Addanki, a wildlife photographer and conservationist, however, waited patiently and put in some effort to get the right frame. His photograph of a colourful black-backed dwarf kingfisher with a small frog clutched in its red bill was taken in Goa. “It took me one or two days to find the location, and then nearly two hours to reach the spot.”Beyond wildlife photography, the gallery walls are adorned with vibrant and riveting images of Kulasai Dasara, fleeting moments around Charminar and scenes from Hyderabad’s streets — moments often overlooked until a creative eye captures them. The exhibition, inaugurated by Dr K Lakshmi, IAS, director, State Gallery of Art, is open to visitors until Aug 26.
