Hyderabad: The Hyderabad metropolitan region accounted for nearly one-fourth of all anomalies detected during Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), but the incidence remained below the state average across its three districts. Within Hyderabad city, however, the pattern changed in several Old City constituencies, where anomaly rates rose to 17%-19%, compared with single-digit levels in parts of Secunderabad and the city’s peripheral constituencies. The latest SIR status report, as of July 31, shows that Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy together recorded 13,81,606 anomalies — 24.5% of Telangana’s total of 56,27,534. The three districts have a combined electoral base of more than 1.14 crore voters, which explains their large share in absolute numbers, even though their anomaly rates were below the statewide average of 16.6%.Hyderabad district recorded 5,85,497 anomalies, the highest number among all districts, but these accounted for 12.3% of its 47,36,669 electors. Its rate was 4.28 percentage points below the state average, indicating that the high count was driven by the district’s large electorate rather than a higher concentration of anomalies.Rangareddy reported 5,31,784 anomalies among 36,99,743 electors, translating into a rate of 14.3%, or 2.27 percentage points below the Telangana average. Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded 2,64,325 anomalies among 29,79,130 electors. At 8.8%, it had the lowest district-level anomaly rate in the state and stood 7.7 percentage points below the Telangana average.Old City seats depart from Hyderabad trendThe district-level average, however, masks variations within Hyderabad. Yakutpura and Chandrayangutta recorded anomaly rates of around 19%, while Bahadurpura was at about 18% and Charminar at around 17%. These constituencies were above the Hyderabad district average and, in some cases, also above the statewide rate.In comparison, Secunderabad Cantonment recorded an anomaly rate of 6.75%, Secunderabad 8.1%, Musheerabad 8.84% and Amberpet 11.1%. The constituency-wise data indicates that the Old City accounted for some of the highest anomaly concentrations within Hyderabad district. At the same time, constituencies in Secunderabad and other parts of the city remained below the district and state averages.Uppal recorded 31,733 anomalies among 5.47 lakh electors, or 5.7%, the lowest constituency-level anomaly rate in Telangana. Patancheru stood at 6.31%, while Station Ghanpur and Secunderabad Cantonment each recorded 6.7%. Lal Bahadur Nagar reported 7.4%, followed by Serilingampally at 7.9%, Secunderabad at 8.1%, Musheerabad at 8.8%, Medchal at about 10% and Amberpet at 11.1%.Medchal-Malkajgiri’s low district average was supported by anomaly rates remaining in the low double digits in constituencies such as Malkajgiri, Kukatpally and Quthbullapur, apart from Uppal and Medchal. None of its constituencies approached the 25%-30% anomaly rates reported in parts of northern Telangana.Shadnagar an outlier in RangareddyRangareddy presented a mixed constituency-level picture. Lal Bahadur Nagar and Serilingampally recorded anomaly rates of 7.43% and 7.99%, respectively, while Rajendranagar remained in the low double digits. Maheswaram reported about 14%, and Ibrahimpatnam was in the mid-teens. (around 13-16% range)Shadnagar, however, emerged as an outlier with an anomaly rate of 28.12%, among the highest in Telangana. The large electorates and lower anomaly rates in the urban constituencies adjoining Hyderabad moderated Rangareddy district’s average despite the high rate in Shadnagar. The metropolitan pattern contrasts with districts such as Adilabad, where 28.56% of electors were flagged for anomalies, Nizamabad at 27.43% and Nirmal at 26.58%. These districts had smaller electorates but a higher relative incidence of anomalies. The data presents a metropolitan paradox: Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy contribute large numbers to Telangana’s anomaly count because they have the state’s biggest voter bases, but their district-level rates remain below the state average. Within this broader urban trend, the Old City constituencies and Shadnagar stand out as pockets with higher anomaly concentrations.
