Imphal: Hundreds of people from diverse communities on Wednesday held a massive peaceful rally in Thoubal district demanding justice for recent civilian killings and raising concerns over alleged human rights violations. The demonstration was organised under the collective leadership of All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), and the Committee on Human Rights (COHR).The rally began from Waithou and culminated at Tangjeng in Thoubal district.Speaking to the media, COHR chairman Phulindro Konsam said unidentified armed assailants attacked Tronglaobi using explosives on April 7, killing two children and injuring their mother.Condemning the incident, Konsam questioned security lapses, saying the attack occurred despite the presence of central forces, including the CRPF, in the area.He alleged that protests that followed were met with force, leading to the deaths of three civilians and injuries to several others.Konsam said the organisations had submitted a memorandum to the government seeking justice and action against those responsible, but “no concrete response has been received so far.”
