Srinagar, Sep 26: Government Higher Secondary School Baduab in Tulail, Gurez, organised an educational and industrial exposure tour for Class 11 and 12 students to Bandipora, Ganderbal and Srinagar, giving students from the remote area first-hand exposure to universities, laboratories, healthcare facilities and a hydropower project.
The multi-day tour included visits to Government Unani Medical College and Associated Hospital, Ganderbal; University of Kashmir; Kishanganga Hydroelectric Power Project; Waqar Knowledge Centre in Bandipora; and Chatternar Museum at the Forest Training College.
At the Unani Medical College, students visited anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and forensic laboratories besides hospital wards and the operation theatre. At the University of Kashmir, they visited departments including Electronics, IT, Physics, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology, along with research laboratories, the Botanical Garden, Herbarium and Iqbal Library.
The students also interacted with University of Kashmir Registrar Prof Naseer Iqbal and former Head of Mathematics Department Prof Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday, who spoke about mathematics anxiety and the relevance of mathematics beyond Class 12.
At the Kishanganga Hydroelectric Power Project, Engineer Amandeep Singh briefed the students about hydropower generation and the functioning of the project.
The students also interacted with Bandipora Deputy Commissioner Indu Kamal at the Waqar Knowledge Centre. Chief Education Officer Bandipora Rafiq Ahmad Mir appreciated the school’s initiative to bring students from the far-flung Tulail area for wider educational exposure.
Principal Nayeem Parey said the tour was not merely an excursion but an educational intervention aimed at broadening the horizons of students from a geographically isolated area.
“For many of our students, this was their first visit to Bandipora and Srinagar,” Parey said, adding that the objective was to help them see opportunities in higher education, science, medicine and technology beyond their familiar surroundings.
He said physically seeing laboratories, universities, hospitals, research facilities and a hydropower project could have a different impact on students than learning about them only through textbooks.
The students also visited the Waqar Knowledge Centre at Mini Secretariat,Bandipora, where they had the opportunity to interact with the Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, Indu Kamal. The interaction provided the students with an opportunity to engage with the district administration and gain an understanding of the importance of education, knowledge and exposure in shaping their future aspirations.
The students were also addressed by Chief Education Officer, Bandipora, Rafiq Ahmad Mir, who appreciated the initiative of Government Higher Secondary School Baduab in bringing students from the far-flung Tulail area to Bandipora.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Education Officer, Bandipora, Rafiq Ahmad Mir, said, “It was my dream that I should bring the children of the Tulail area here. Today, that dream has been fulfilled. In this regard, I congratulate the Principal, HSS Baduab, for taking the initiative and making this programme successful.”
The Chief Education Officer appreciated the efforts of the school in providing students from the remote area with exposure to educational institutions and learning opportunities beyond their immediate surroundings. He emphasised the importance of such initiatives in
building confidence among students and broadening their educational and career aspirations.
The school said the tour was facilitated with support from the School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha, Directorate of School Education Kashmir and district administration, with the initiative aimed at ensuring that geographical remoteness does not limit students’ exposure to educational and career opportunities.
