Haldia: Haldia Petrochemicals (HPL) chairman Purnendu Chatterjee on Friday visited the company’s upcoming phenol and acetone plant, inching closer to its official commissioning, to review its final phase of construction in Haldia. Accompanied by company’s whole-time director and CEO Navanit Narayan and other senior project officials, Chatterjee was briefed on the final roadmap towards operational readiness.The facility, being developed under HPL’s subsidiary Adplus Polymers & Chemicals, represents an investment of approximately Rs 6,000 crore. It is set to house two landmark milestones, including India’s first on-purpose propylene plant based on Olefin Conversion Technology (OCT) and India’s largest phenol production unit. With this move, HPL becomes the country’s first integrated player in phenolics chain.Beyond the technical milestones, the project is expected to be a major economic driver for Bengal. Industry experts suggest the plant will provide raw material for a wide range of downstream industries in the region, which will also generate significant direct and indirect job opportunities. The project will enhance HPL’s downstream presence and long-term value creation.“The project continues to progress in line with planned timelines,” the company stated.
