JAIPUR: A 40-year-old tourist guide died during treatment at Sawai Man Singh Hospital on Tuesday, a day after he was allegedly stabbed following an argument near Amer Fort, triggering protests and a shutdown of shops in the area.The deceased, Manish Soni, a resident of Amer, was allegedly attacked around 9.30am on Monday after an argument with a tourist vehicle driver, identified as Azam.Police said Soni had stopped vehicles from proceeding towards Amer Fort, leading to an altercation with the driver. The argument allegedly escalated, following which Soni was attacked with a knife and suffered serious injuries to his abdomen.Police said an associate of the accused, identified as Nazish, was also allegedly involved in the attack.Soni was rushed to SMS Hospital and admitted to the ICU but succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning. Police said severe injuries and excessive blood loss led to his death.Azam has been arrested and is being questioned, while police are continuing their investigation into the case. DCP (North) Karan Sharma said Soni and Azam had also been involved in a scuffle a few days before the stabbing, though Soni had not lodged a formal complaint.News of Soni’s death sparked anger among local residents and tourist guides. Shops in Amer’s main market were shut as hundreds of people gathered on the streets to protest.The protesters demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for Soni’s family, a government job for a family member and strict action against the accused. BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya reached the spot and held talks with the protesters.Additional police forces were deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Following several rounds of discussions, the protesters dispersed after authorities assured the family of all possible financial assistance and a contractual job.The incident had also triggered a road blockade on Monday soon after news of the stabbing spread.
