LUCKNOW: Abaan Ahmed (21), son of slain mafia don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in a road accident on the Jhansi-Kanpur Highway on Wednesday while travelling to meet his elder brother, Ali Ahmed, lodged in Jhansi Jail. Another occupant, identified as Sonu, also died in the crash, while three others were injured.According to police, all five occupants were travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi in a Hyundai Creta when the accident occurred. Preliminary investigation suggests the driver lost control of the SUV while trying to avoid an animal that suddenly crossed the highway. The vehicle then rammed into the central divider at high speed.The impact left the front of the SUV completely mangled. Police rushed to the spot, rescued the occupants from the wreckage and shifted them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Moth.Doctors declared Abaan Ahmed and Sonu dead on arrival. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination in Jhansi.The injured — Umar Ahmed, Mohammad Zaid and Aslam — are undergoing treatment, and their condition is being monitored.Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident. Initial findings indicate the vehicle went out of control while attempting to avoid an animal, though the exact cause of the crash is yet to be established.
