Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday sought global artificial intelligence company Anthropic’s expertise on deploying AI to reduce fraud in govt systems, signalling the state’s intent to leverage advanced AI for improving governance and public service delivery.During a meeting with a senior Anthropic delegation led by Anthropic’s Head of International Policy Michael Sellitto, the CM Chief specifically explored how AI could help detect and prevent fraud in govt processes while enhancing the efficiency, security and transparency of public administration.Shivakumar also sought Anthropic’s suggestions on using AI to strengthen the confidentiality and integrity of question paper preparation for examinations conducted by govt depts and educational institutions, amid growing concerns over paper leaks and exam-related malpractice.The meeting, facilitated by IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, focused on building a long-term partnership to accelerate AI adoption across governance, higher education, healthcare, research and the state’s startup ecosystem.The state reiterated its “Government First” approach, proposing secure access to government datasets to enable AI-powered public solutions without compromising sensitive information. The CM outlined Karnataka’s broader AI roadmap, including the proposed AI University, large-scale skilling initiatives and support for deep-tech startups. The two sides also discussed introducing AI certification programmes, including Claude certification, under the state’s NIPUNA initiative to create a skilled AI workforce.Other areas explored included AI applications in healthcare, scientific research with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), tax administration and citizen services. Department-wise working groups may also be constituted to identify AI use cases across government.The Anthropic delegation included managing director (Indian) Irina Ghose, head of India Policy Amlan Mohanty and Samarth Masson, who leads the Go-to-Market initiatives.
