People from districts are enquiring if they can apply for an LIG flat in cityHyderabad: Four days after inviting applications for Indiramma LIG flats to constructed in Greater Hyderabad and surrounding areas within the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) area limits, the call centre of the Telangana housing board has been flooded with calls from all over the state enquiring how they can become beneficiaries of an Indiramma LIG flat in the state capital.People from Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool, Vikarabad, Mahabubabad, Jagtial, Korutla and other districts have started calling up the housing board’s call centre 040-24603572 to know whether they can apply for an Indiramma LIG flat in the city as the Congress govt has announced to construct over 7,680 flats in the 10-storeyed towers.
There is a huge demand for these flats as the sites are in areas like Raidurg, where an acre sold for a record ₹237 crore recently, and other parcels of land are near Jubilee Hills MLA Colony, Red Hills, Mahindra Hills near Marredpally, Patigadda near Begumpet airport to name a few locations, officials said.In all, over 2,000 calls were received from Monday onwards when the Indiramma LIG flats project’s launch was announced by housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. “We are aso receiving numerous calls from Chandrayangutta, LB Nagar and other assembly constituencies where LIG flats have not been announced. We are politely telling them that one of the main eligibility criteria is that the applicant should be a continuous resident and voter of Greater Hyderabad for 10 years,” said an employee at the call centre.People from various districts told the call centre employees that they were willing to withdraw their applications in their respective villages if they are allowed to apply for LIG flats in the state capital. A few others said their applications for Indiramma houses in their villages and towns were yet to be approved and they would forego them if allowed to apply in Hyderabad. Some others said their children were pursuing education in various schools and colleges in Hyderabad, and as such, an LIG flat in the city would be useful.Telangana Housing Board vice chairperson and commissioner V P Gautham told TOI that it was with the intention of removing non-locals that the eligibility criteria of the applicant being a resident and voter continuously for 10 years anywhere in Hyderabad has been mandatory.“This Indiramma LIG towers flats scheme is for the homeless poor who are residents and voters of GHMC, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad municipal corporation limits within the CURE area. They must not have availed a house or 2-BHK from any govt in the past and their annual income should not exceed ₹6 lakh. Presently, the LIG flats scheme is eligible for residents and voters of the state capital but priority would be given to those who apply for a LIG flat in the tower that is proposed to be constructed in their assembly constituency limits. If there are more applications than the number of flats, then the draw of lots would decide the beneficiary,” he said.In the first phase, the govt plans to construct 7,680 flats across assembly constituencies of Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Malkajgiri, Nampally, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Bahadurpura, Amberpet, Kukatpally, Medchal, Quthbullapur, Sanathnagar, Secunderabad Cantonment and Malakpet assembly constituencies limits respectively. In the second phase, it will be extended to other constituencies in the CURE area, for which the chief minister has directed the officials to identify govt lands.
