Ahmedabad: With rain continuing to elude the city, Ahmedabad experienced hot and humid conditions on Sunday. The maximum temperature settled at 37°C, three degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 27.7°C, 1.4 degrees above normal. Relative humidity in the city stood at 71% at 8.30am and 46% at 5.30pm.The state did not receive any rainfall on Sunday, with Gujarat’s seasonal rainfall yet to cross the one-fourth mark. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast indicated slim chances of significant rainfall over the next few days, though isolated parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra may receive light to moderate showers.“Weather systems are currently not favourable for rainfall. While the monsoon has covered the entire country, the monsoon trough is presently active only over parts of central and eastern India. These conditions are likely to persist until a new system develops and reaches the state,” said a Met department official.The prolonged dry spell has pushed maximum temperatures above 35°C in several cities and towns across Gujarat, with Surendranagar recording the state’s highest maximum temperature of 37.3°C.
