Gurgaon: The city woke up to a hot and humid Thursday with the maximum temperature settling at 37.6°C at the AWS station. However, brief showers in the evening brought some relief to residents.While the minimum temperature settled at 26°C at the KVK AWS station, the city recorded around 1 mm of rainfall during the past with the rain ending around 5.30 pm on Thursday.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places in Gurgaon and across Haryana on Friday, with similar conditions till July 1.Across Haryana, the average maximum temperature rose by 0.6°C compared to Wednesday and remained 1.9°C above normal, while the average minimum temperature increased by 0.3°C and stayed near normal. Rohtak was the hottest place in the state at 42.1°C, while Bhiwani recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature of 22°C.The IMD’s seven-day forecast indicates that Friday will witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places. Similar weather is expected on June 27, followed by dry conditions on June 28. Thunderstorm activity is likely to return from June 29 to July 1.For the Chandigarh region, the IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms on Thursday, followed by mainly clear skies over the next four days. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 37°C and 38°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to stay between 25°C and 26°C.The forecast suggests that while daytime temperatures will remain close to 38°C over the coming days, intermittent thunderstorm activity could bring brief relief from the prevailing heat and humidity.
