Kolkata: The Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital met on Wednesday, a brainstorming exercise to enhance patient care services. Sources said the meeting was happening after more than a year.Attended by the college principal, MSVP, department heads, and junior and doctor representatives, the administration asked for suggestions from all stakeholders on the requirement for reopening the emergency unit. “Among the suggestions we put forward was increasing the number of trolley counters, setting up a patient help desk in front of the emergency unit, and constructing a patient toilet immediately,” said Trinesh Mondal, a junior doctor representative at the RKS.The current emergency unit has a lone functional toilet that is used by both male and female staff. The doctors also demanded an apology from MLA Atin Ghosh, an RKS member, on his comments that the death could have been avoided had doctors allowed patients to use the staff bathroom. They also demanded Ghosh’s removal from RKS.
