PUNE: A fresh twist has emerged in the Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal murder case, with investigators saying that Chetan Chaudhary allegedly changed his appearance after reaching Lohagad Fort in an attempt to avoid detection.Police believe the move was part of a carefully planned effort to conceal his identity before and after the crime.According to investigators, Chaudhary climbed the fort wearing a hoodie, removed it and remained in a black T-shirt during his stay. Before leaving, he put the hoodie back on.“He climbed the fort wearing a hoodie. Later, he removed it and remained in a black T-shirt. While leaving, he put on the hoodie again,” the official said, adding that investigators believe it was done to avoid attracting attention.
According to police, Chaudhary also took elaborate measures to conceal his movements while following Goyal and Agarwal on June 18.Instead of travelling by car, he allegedly rode a scooter from Pune to Lohagad Fort, a distance of about 90km, to avoid attracting attention.“Chaudhary travelled to Lohagad Fort on the morning of June 18. He chose a scooter over a car as he feared the car could be detected at a toll plaza. We have seized the scooter,” said a police officer, who is part of the investigation.After allegedly committing the crime, Chaudhary returned to Pune on the same scooter, the official said.According to an investigating official, the duo had meticulously planned the murder.As per the plan, Siya Goyal was to signal Chetan Chaudhary by sitting down, either on the pretext of drinking water or tying her shoelaces.Once she gave the signal, Chaudhary was to approach from behind and push an unsuspecting Ketan Agarwal off the fort.
Investigators believe the use of the signal was also a calculated move to shield Goyal from immediate suspicion by ensuring she was not standing close to Agarwal at the time of the alleged push.“The signal was chosen deliberately so that Goyal would not be within the victim’s reach during the fatal push. They feared that if Chetan pushed Ketan and the latter tried to grab Siya while falling, she too could fall into the gorge. The plan was made keeping her safety in mind,” he said.(With inputs from PTI)
