Thiruvananthapuram: Home minister Ramesh Chennithala condemned the attack on the District Congress Committee (DCC) office in the state capital, saying political party offices should not be targeted and such acts are against democratic norms. The glass panes of the office were damaged after miscreants allegedly pelted stones at the building in the early hours of Wednesday.Chennithala said the police would examine the CCTV footage to identify those responsible. Asked whether security would be provided to Congress offices, he said party workers themselves are available to protect the offices.The Congress alleged that BJP workers were behind the attack.DCC president N Shakthan said there had been no provocation warranting an attack on the party office.Shakthan alleged that there was a deliberate attempt to target Congress offices and urged party workers not to provoke further confrontations. A protest march was taken out by DCC seeking immediate police action against the miscreants.KPCC president Sunny Joseph also condemned the attack, saying those responsible would be brought to justice at the earliest. “Congress does not believe in a politics of violence,” he said, adding that the party would not succumb to such attacks.Meanwhile, a BJP worker was arrested for allegedly setting fire to the Congress mandalam committee office at Anavoor. The arrested person is Suresh Kumar of Anavoor.The incident reportedly followed a clash between Congress and BJP workers at Neyyattinkara on Tuesday. Congress workers had allegedly intercepted the car of BJP south district president after BJP workers staged a black-flag protest against minister O J Janish. A scuffle subsequently broke out between the two groups.
