Panaji: After the Goa state council for educational research and training (GSCERT) decided to implement holistic progress cards from Class I to VIII in all govt and aided schools from the current academic year, the Goa board of secondary and higher secondary education too has said that the new process of assessment will be introduced in a phased-manner from Class IX from 2026-27.Implementation of holistic progress cards is a requirement under the National Education Policy, 2020.“All heads of secondary schools are hereby informed that holistic progress card is being rolled out for implementation in secondary schools phase-wise with the objective of providing a comprehensive and holistic view of the learner’s progress and development. The holistic progress card is designed to move beyond assessment of academic achievement alone,” the board has told schools. It has said that the holistic progress card will capture the learners’ competencies, skills, values, attitudes, co-curricular participation, and overall development through a competency-based and learner centric approach. At the end of the month, the Goa board will be carrying out an orientation programme on holistic progress cards for heads of all secondary schools in Goa.The board has over the last couple of years divided the Class IX into two semesters and the board conducts the exams at the end of each semester. The Goa board sets the question papers for these exams. The idea is to get students used to answering standardised question papers and be prepared for Class X board exams. The first exam will be conducted in Oct, following which students will be assessed based on Holistic Progress Cards. The results will be compiled from Oct into holistic progress cards, which assess the students on 60 parameters. It is a multidimensional assessment that measures practical skills, creativity, behavioural values, and physical development.
