Hisar: Civil Lines police on Sunday arrested Surender alias Golu, president of the Hisar municipal corporation sanitation workers’ union, in connection with an alleged attack on civic body employees and vandalism of a garbage collection vehicle during a door-to-door waste collection drive in Sector 13 market.A police team reached the Municipal Corporation office to arrest Surender. Employees present there reportedly opposed the action and tried to prevent police from taking him away. The police, however, took him into custody and brought him to the police station.The case was registered on a complaint by municipal corporation junior engineer Naveen Kumar, overall in-charge of the door-to-door waste collection drive in Ward 14.According to the complaint, garbage collection vehicle **HR-39G-6835**, driven by Narendra Kumar and accompanied by a police personnel, had gone to Sector 13 market when Surender, Pawan Daroga and their associates allegedly arrived on motorcycles and blocked its way.The complaint states that Pawan Daroga argued with the police personnel accompanying the vehicle. During the altercation, Surender allegedly picked up bricks and repeatedly hit the vehicle’s windows, smashing them.The accused allegedly assaulted the driver, snatched the vehicle’s keys and punctured its tyres with pointed objects before leaving the spot.Police have booked Surender, Pawan Daroga and others under relevant sections of the BNS and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. PSI Sohit is investigating the case.Another attack caught on CCTVIn a separate incident, an alleged attack on a garbage collection vehicle was reported near Malik Chowk, close to the residence of former local bodies minister Kamal Gupta.CCTV footage reportedly shows several people surrounding a garbage collection vehicle before Surender allegedly arrives and threatens its driver.The driver told officials that 20-25 people on nearly 15 motorcycles stopped the vehicle, abused him and allegedly smashed its window. He further alleged that the group opened the vehicle’s door, pulled him out and assaulted him, tearing his clothes.The attackers allegedly took away the vehicle’s keys and documents and threatened him with consequences if he continued with the job.Following the incident, municipal officials, including Amit Kaushik, reached the spot and informed police. The vehicle was subsequently taken to the police station with the help of a crane.Police are examining the CCTV footage and looking for the other accused.
