Hisar: A local court in Hisar has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for the murder of a villager following a drunken altercation nearly six years ago.The court of Hisar sessions judge Alka Malik convicted Mahabir alias Tenna, a resident of Kali Rawan village, for the murder of Naresh. According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the night of Oct 26, 2019, in Kali Rawan village under Agroha police station limits. Mahabir and the victim, Naresh, were consuming liquor together at the latter’s house when an argument broke out between them. During the altercation, the accused allegedly attacked Naresh with an iron rod and a screwdriver, causing severe head injuries.Naresh’s cousin Naveen later saw Mahabir hurriedly leaving the house and found Naresh lying badly injured inside the house with bleeding wounds on his head and face. The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.The police recovered an iron rod, a screwdriver, blood-stained bedding, and other articles from the scene. The post-mortem examination confirmed that the death had occurred due to cranio-cerebral injuries caused by blunt force, which proved fatal.During the investigation, the accused was arrested the next day. Blood-stained clothes worn by him at the time of the incident were also recovered, and forensic analysis detected human blood on the garments.While delivering the judgment, the court observed that the circumstantial evidence, witness testimony, recovery of weapons, and medical findings formed a complete chain proving the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.The court concluded that Mahabir murdered Naresh after consuming liquor with him and later inflicted fatal blows during the quarrel. Following the conviction, the court sentenced Mahabir to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
