Silchar: Assam Rifles and Cachar police seized heroin and Yaba tablets valued at an estimated Rs 5 crore at Lailapur in Cachar district on Sunday.Acting on intelligence, security personnel launched an operation and intercepted the suspected traffickers. When challenged, the suspects attempted to flee, but were apprehended after a brief chase, officials said.The team recovered 42 soap cases containing heroin, estimated to be valued at around Rs 2 crore, and 10,000 Yaba tablets valued at nearly Rs 3 crore. Two mobile phones were also seized during the operation.The two arrested persons, along with the seized contraband, were handed over to Cachar police for further investigation. The identities of the accused have not yet been disclosed.Officials said the successful operation marks another significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region. Assam Rifles and Cachar Police have intensified anti-narcotics operations in recent months to dismantle cross-border drug smuggling networks operating in the northeastern region.
