Bhopal: A quick-thinking police constable turned panic into relief for a Class 10 student who reached the wrong examination centre in Chhatarpur on Tuesday morning.
The student arrived breathless at Government Maharani Lakshmi Bai Girls Higher Secondary School, only to realise his English paper was scheduled at another centre nearly 4 km away. With the gates set to close in five minutes and no transport in sight, he panicked.
City Kotwali constable Rajesh Singh Bagri, posted at the centre, noticed the boy’s distress, handed over his duty to a colleague and rushed him on his police bike. Navigating light morning traffic, Bagri covered the distance in exactly five minutes, dropping the student just as the gates were about to shut.
“I saw the fear in his eyes–the kind that could ruin a kid’s future,” Bagri said. “It was just my duty as a policeman to step in. A small gesture like this can save an entire year.”
Centre officials and onlookers applauded the gesture, terming it “smart policing” and urging departmental recognition for the constable’s timely help.
Assistant Center Head Sarita Chaurasia said staff members were pinned to their posts and could not intervene. “This is an exemplary act shown by the police. Due to his timely support student’s academics could be saved,” said Chaurasia.
