Panaji: The protected heritage site of Casa da Polvora at Panelim has come under scrutiny after state govt admitted that the monument was recorded under an incorrect survey number and was found inaccessible during departmental verification.The issue was raised through a starred LAQ by MLA Cruz Silva and answered by chief minister and archaeology minister Pramod Sawant in the ongoing assembly.The department said the site was found inaccessible during verification. Subsequent examination of the Bhunaksha map and revenue records, however, revealed a discrepancy in the survey number.Following the discovery, the directorate of archaeology wrote to the North Goa collectorate and the department of settlement and land records seeking verification of the monument’s exact location and correction of the survey records.The department is now seeking to establish the precise location of the protected monument in the official land records.
