Ludhiana: District Magistrate Himanshu Jain has implemented a 12-hour daily ban on heavy vehicles in Khanna to combat the town’s worsening traffic congestion. Effective immediately, trucks, trailers, and tippers are prohibited from entering Municipal Council limits between 8 am and 8 pm.The restriction is scheduled to remain in force from February 10, 2026, until April 9, 2026. To ensure the city’s basic needs are met, the administration has granted exemptions for vehicles transporting essential commodities, such as milk and LPG cylinders, as well as those with specific prior authorization from the District Magistrate.Local police have warned of severe consequences for those who ignore the new regulations. Drivers caught violating the ban face a hefty fine of Rs 20,000, and authorities have the power to impound vehicles. Special checkpoints and traffic police teams are being deployed across the town to monitor major entry points.Khanna police officials, including SP Harpinder Kaur Gill and DSP Karamveer Toor, confirmed that signboards are being installed to alert out-of-town drivers. They emphasized that the orders are being implemented “in letter and spirit” to provide much-needed relief to daily commuters and local residents.
