Shivamogga: Heavy monsoon downpours lashed Shivamogga district on Saturday, uprooting many trees and electricity poles across the region while causing a surge in water inflows into major rivers, including the Tunga, Bhadra and Sharavathi.The district recorded an overall daily average rainfall of 46.9 mm in 24 hours till Saturday morning. Among the taluks, Thirthahalli received the highest daily rainfall of 98 mm, followed by Hosanagara (80.6 mm), Sagar (52.7 mm), Soraba (48.9 mm), Shikaripura (26.4 mm), Shivamogga taluk (12.1 mm) and Bhadravathi (9.6 mm).Torrential showers in catchment areas dramatically boosted reservoir storage levels across the region. At Tunga Dam, daily inflow spiked to 52,000 cusecs, prompting authorities to release 53,000 cusecs into the river. The dam reached its full storage capacity some three weeks before.Meanwhile, Linganamakki Dam logged 35.4 mm of daily rain and an inflow of 38,183 cusecs — adding 3tmcft of water in 24 hours — raising its present reservoir level to 1,777.95 feet against its maximum of 1,819 feet. But still, the major hydroelectric reservoir holds 33.82% of water. The downpour in the region has brought magnificent Jog Falls to life.
