Kolkata: With no significant change in the mercury, the city continued to reel under intense heat and humidity. The Met office expects slight relief between Saturday and Sunday, during which the city might get a spell of rain or two. Even as the southwest monsoon has set over the Kerala coast on Thursday, the Met office has not announced monsoon arrival date in Kolkata.The maximum temperature surged to this summer’s highest of 37 degrees on Wednesday. While it rescinded slightly down to 36.8 degrees, the accompanying high humidity continued to make the feel-like temperature touch around 45 degrees in the afternoon. The night temperature at 29.8 degrees was close to 30 degrees for the second consecutive day.“We can expect some thundershower activity in the city and some other parts of south Bengal between Friday and Sunday. But expected intensity is likely to be not very significant in order to make a lasting impact,” said a meteorologist at Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.June 10 is considered the normal date for the monsoon to hit Kolkata after it advances towards north Bengal. While pockets like Salt Lake and Lake Town encountered a spell of rain on Wednesday, Kolkata experienced only drizzles.Ends
