HDFC Bank on Monday said its board has approved the appointment of Jigar Shah as general counsel-designate, with effect from August 20, 2026. Shah will take over as general counsel from October 1, 2026, the lender said in a stock exchange filing.
Shah will be part of the bank’s senior management personnel from the date of joining, the filing said. The appointment follows recommendations of the governance, nomination and remuneration committee and was approved at the board meeting held on June 29.
With over three decades of experience across legal, compliance, governance and regulatory matters in banking and financial services, Shah was most recently associated with Elmcroft Consulting Services.
Earlier, he served as managing director at KKR India, where he headed legal and compliance and was part of the India leadership team. He has also held senior legal leadership roles at JPMorgan Chase Bank and Deutsche Bank across India, Hong Kong and London.
He holds an LLB (Hons.) degree from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, completed his Law Society Finals from The College of Law, Guildford, and is admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales.
The board also approved the appointment of Puneet Sharma as chief financial officer-designate, effective September 1, 2026, with full-time CFO responsibilities from December 1, 2026, the bank said.
