BengaluruCancer hospital chain HealthCare Global Enterprises (HCG) nearly tripled its profit to Rs 16.5 crore in the June quarter from about Rs 6 crore a year ago, driven by higher patient volumes and capacity expansion.Total income rose 14% year-on-year to Rs 707 crore, from Rs 620 crore in the year-ago quarter. Patient volumes increased 11%, while average revenue per patient grew 2%.Growth was strongest in eastern India, where revenue rose 22%, followed by the south at 16%. The western region, HCG’s largest market by revenue, grew 9%.HCG added 121 operational beds during the quarter as it expanded its cancer-care network. More than half of the new capacity came from its North Bengaluru hospital, which began operations in May with 56 beds. The facility recorded more than 550 new patient registrations and over 300 admissions in its first few weeks.Sixteen of HCG’s 25 centres, excluding the newly opened North Bengaluru hospital, reported their highest-ever quarterly revenue. Revenue from cash-paying and insured patients also increased during the quarter.The company is gearing up for a larger expansion, with plans to add around 1,000 beds by FY30. About 60% of the new capacity is expected to come from expanding existing hospitals rather than setting up entirely new facilities.
