Kolkata: Trinamool Congress’s proposed public meeting at Serampore faces uncertainty with Calcutta High Court’s division bench returning the matter to the single judge and asking the state govt to file a review petition against the order allowing the meeting.The state govt and Jagannath Temple Committee had appealed against Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya’s order before the division bench of Chief Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge and Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty. The bench dismissed the appeal, directing both parties to approach the single judge.Justice Bhattacharyya on Thursday had allowed TMC legislator Asit Mazumdar to hold a meeting — to be attended by former chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Serampore — after they were denied permission to hold a rally by cops to avoid ‘choking’ GT Road.The meeting was allowed from 1pm to 3pm with 2,000 participants at ‘Mahesh Jagannath Dev’s Snanpiri Maidan’ in Serampore. They had earlier sought to conduct a political rally with 5,000 participants from the ‘maidan’ to Serampore court.But the state govt approached the division bench on Thursday. Additional advocate general (AAG) Bilwadal Bhattachharyya had repeatedly submitted before the single judge that the ‘maidan’ where TMC was allowed to hold the protest meeting was private property.AAG Bhattachharyya, representing the state govt, instead suggested Delhi Road, which was rejected by Mazumdar’s counsel.
