Hassan: DC KS Latha Kumari on Monday hit back at former minister and JD(S) leader HD Revanna for his personal remarks against the IAS officer, saying they were uncalled for and unbecoming of a former minister.Latha told reporters that she had secured the post constitutionally through her own hard work and merit and that nobody had “brought” her to the position. She was responding to Revanna’s remark made in a tone of ridicule, asking “from where did they (the govt) even find such a DC?”Revanna had earlier alleged that Latha had fixed reservation of gram panchayat wards under political pressure.“Many officers in the district are afraid of him. Such language appears to be an attempt to weaken me mentally. Let me clarify, I’m not weak and I cannot be weakened,” she added. On the reservation row, she clarified that under the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, the power to notify reservations rests with DC, and not with tahsildars or MLAs. Tahsildars only send proposals with ward-wise population data and DC issues the final notification, she said.If there were errors, the MLA had every right to raise objections through proper channels, she said, adding that Revanna had so far not submitted any written objection to the reservation.
