Chandigarh: Haryana labour minister Anil Vij said the state govt has approved revised nomenclature for nursing posts in the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) department, bringing them in line with the health department.Vij said chief minister Nayab Singh Saini had cleared the proposal to give ESI nursing personnel designations matching their roles and professional identity in the health services. Under the changes, staff nurses will be called nursing officers, nursing sisters senior nursing officers, assistant matrons assistant chief nursing officers, and matrons chief nursing officers.The minister said the move was only a redesignation of posts and would not create any additional financial liability for the state. He said the decision was aimed at ensuring uniformity between departments, improving administrative consistency, and strengthening the functioning of ESI healthcare facilities across the state.Calling nurses the backbone of healthcare delivery, Vij said the revised designations would provide a more contemporary and dignified identity to the cadre and bring parity with similar posts in the health department. He said the reform was in continuation of nomenclature changes introduced during his tenure as health minister to enhance professional recognition and morale among employees.
