Gurugram, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has said the state has no dearth of talent and stressed the need to provide the right direction and skills to its youth in line with changing industry requirements.
Saini made the remarks while releasing the Haryana State Skill Gap Study and 23 district-level Skill Gap Reports at Gurugram University here.
The reports assess industry requirements, the talent and potential available across districts and employment opportunities for young people based on their skills and capabilities, according to an official statement.
The chief minister said investors from across India and abroad are keen to invest in Haryana, with new industries being established continuously. It is therefore the government’s responsibility to equip the state’s youth with skills suited to the evolving requirements of industries and investors, he said.
“Times are changing rapidly and it is necessary to move forward in the field of skill development at the same pace,” Saini said, according to the statement.
He said sectors such as semiconductors, automobiles, artificial intelligence, electronics, solar energy and electric vehicles were witnessing rapid technological changes, making it essential to train young people in emerging technologies.
Saini said Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics were being linked with industries to provide training based on their requirements, with greater emphasis on practical training alongside theory and the use of modern technology.
The Skill Gap Study would help establish better coordination between industry requirements and the skills available among youth, enabling investors to access skilled manpower while creating new employment opportunities, he said.
The chief minister said the district-wise reports would help authorities plan skill courses according to the industrial potential and employment opportunities in individual districts.
He suggested that the findings be discussed with representatives of ITIs, polytechnics and leading industries. He also proposed developing a portal containing information on the type and number of skilled workers required by different industries and linking it with ITIs and polytechnic institutions.
Such a system would help identify the manpower requirements of new industries and enable institutions to train youth accordingly, he said.
Saini said work was underway to establish artificial intelligence hubs in Gurugram and Panchkula and stressed the need to prepare young people for emerging technologies.
A degree alone should not determine a person’s qualification, he said, adding that people with relevant skills should also get opportunities to progress. Short-term certification courses could help such youth, he said.
The chief minister also called for a one-day seminar bringing together representatives of ITIs, polytechnics, universities, skill universities and industries to discuss the findings of the Skill Gap Report.
He said new skills would have to be developed at the same pace as emerging sectors such as lithium, solar energy and electric vehicles.
Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Minister Gaurav Gautam described the study as an important effort to understand the aspirations, talent and future direction of Haryana’s youth.
He said the district-level reports would provide a foundation for skill development initiatives and help connect education with employment.
Gautam said the study had also highlighted changing aspirations among young people, with many seeking to build careers on the basis of talent, hard work and capabilities rather than focusing solely on government jobs.
The sample size of the study would be expanded in future, and regular interactions with youth and industry would be held to develop courses according to their requirements, he said. PTI
