HISAR: Haryana BJP president Dr Archana Gupta stirred political debate in Dabwali on Tuesday after questioning the developmental legacy of former deputy prime minister Chaudhary Devi Lal, saying that despite being a mass leader, “he did nothing for the future generation” and that key issues such as irrigation, drinking water and basic infrastructure remained inadequately addressed during previous political regimes. In remarks that could trigger a fresh political contest over legacy politics in Haryana, BJP state president Dr Archana Gupta launched a sharp attack on opposition parties and questioned the developmental record associated with the political influence of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal.Addressing a welcome and felicitation programme in the Kalanwali Assembly segment of Dabwali, Gupta described Devi Lal as a leader connected with the masses but alleged that long years of political influence in the region had not translated into sufficient development for future generations.Gupta alleged that a single political family had dominated the region for years and claimed that despite acquiring vast landholdings over time, adequate attention was never paid to the concerns of farmers, traders and rural development. She claimed that despite the presence of govts led by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), critical areas such as irrigation facilities, drinking water supply and basic civic infrastructure did not receive adequate attention.Political observers say the remarks assume significance because Sirsa and adjoining areas have traditionally remained closely associated with Devi Lal’s political legacy and continue to be considered influential regions for parties emerging from his political lineage.Gupta also highlighted development initiatives undertaken under BJP-led govts, including welfare measures for farmers, infrastructure projects and schemes focused on women and rural communities.During her address, she also criticised Congress over women’s issues and targeted the Punjab govt on matters related to drugs, governance and law and order.Earlier, the BJP leader received a welcome from party workers and local leaders, with several senior party office-bearers attending the programme.
