Prayagraj: Residents of the Sangam city woke up to a thick blanket of clouds on Saturday morning, with the sky remaining overcast till around 10 am. Strong, gusty winds accompanied by sporadic showers swept across several parts of the district during the day, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heat that gripped the region earlier this week. The change in weather led to a significant drop in temperature, although high humidity continued to make conditions sultry and uncomfortable.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Prayagraj was recorded at 36.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at 29.1 degrees Celsius. Compared to the previous day, the daytime temperature witnessed a further decline, largely due to persistent cloud cover, intermittent rain and strong winds.Despite the fall in temperature, the city experienced sultry weather for the second consecutive day. Relative humidity remained high, fluctuating between 50% and 60%, resulting in sticky conditions and excessive sweating. The impact of the gusty winds, reaching up to 50 kmph, was visible across both urban and rural areas of the district. Trees were uprooted at several locations, leading to disruptions in traffic movement and inconvenience to commuters. In some localities, branches fell on roads, prompting civic authorities to undertake clearance operations. Power disruption was also reported in several localities. In Muttiganj, two persons suffered injuries when a portion of a dilapidated verandah collapsed amid the strong winds and rain. The injured were provided medical attention. The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies with the possibility of thunderstorms and light to moderate rain for a day, after which a weeklong spell of bright sunshine resulting in warm conditions is expected.
