GURGAON: A fraudulent call centre allegedly duping people on the pretext of selling weight-loss medicines was busted in Udyog Vihar Phase-5, with three women arrested, police said on Sunday.The Cyber Crime Police Station (West) team conducted a raid on June 26 and seized 102 mobile phones, 150 SIM cards, 12 laptops and other electronic evidence from the premises.The arrested accused have been identified as Mandeep, a resident of Aya Nagar, Delhi, currently staying in Chakkarpur, Gurgaon; Neha, a resident of Rangpuri, Delhi; and Varsha, a resident of Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, currently staying in Sushant Lok, Gurgaon.Police said the accused operated social media pages under the name Curest Science and Wellness Pvt Ltd, where they advertised herbal medicines claiming to help in weight loss. After people showed interest through the advertisements, call centre executives contacted them and convinced them to buy the products.The accused allegedly assured customers that the medicines would help reduce weight and promised a 100% refund if the products did not work. However, when customers sought refunds, their calls and messages were blocked, police said.During investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly cheated people in Gujarat of crores of rupees and carried out similar frauds in several other states by selling fake weight-loss medicines.The accused also posed as beauticians, dietitians and doctors to gain the trust of customers, police said. The police team was led by Inspector Sandeep Kumar, SHO of Cyber Crime Police Station (West), under the supervision of ACP Gaurav Fogat.ASI Nitin, ASI Deepankar, Head Constables Pinku and Bhagat Singh, Constables Sonu and Satish, and Woman Constable Nishu were part of the team.Police said the mobile numbers used in the fraud were allotted to company employees, while the operation was allegedly controlled by the company’s manager, chief administrative officer, director/owner and other associates.A case has been registered under relevant sections of law at Cyber Crime Police Station (West), Gurgaon. Further investigation is underway to identify other people involved in the fraud.
