Gandhinagar: Special ‘tourist police stations’ will be set up at Gir Somnath, Dwarka and Dang with the aim of enhancing the safety and convenience of tourists, said the state govt on Wednesday. DGP K L N Rao chaired a meeting on Wednesday to work out modalities for operationalising the police stations in key destinations visited by tourists. An official statement said existing police outposts at tourist sites will be upgraded to advanced tourist police stations. The meeting also discussed designing special uniforms for police personnel and a unique ‘logo’ for vehicles to ensure tourists can easily identify and seek help from the police, the statement added. SPs of all districts have also been instructed to develop a central ‘interactive tourist police application’ to provide tourists with all necessary information and security-related services on a single platform. Posting manpower, purchase of new vehicles and other infrastructure was also discussed at the meeting, the statement said.
