Ahmedabad: State police have detained several people preventively ahead of the nationwide protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday, with activists, artists and members of civil society groups and political parties among those detained.DGP G S Malik told TOI that police had taken precautionary measures ahead of the protest, but the number of people detained was yet to be ascertained.A senior police officer said those detained included people who had participated in earlier protests over the NEET paper leak controversy and demanded action against then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.One of those detained alleged that police were also contacting family members and residents of their neighbourhoods and threatening them to discourage participation in the protest.Meanwhile, the Western Railway cancelled the Sabarmati-New Delhi Swarn Jayanti Rajdhani Express scheduled to depart on Friday and announced a one-way special train to Delhi on Oct 10. The decision comes amid warnings of road closures and heavy traffic congestion around major railway stations in Delhi on that day.Western Railway has also announced Train No. 04251, the Sabarmati-Delhi Junction Special Express, for one trip on Oct 10.
