Puri: A fast-track court in Puri on Monday sentenced a 69-year-old Gujarat resident to one year of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for allegedly sexually harassing a 25-year-old woman in the Jagannath Temple in Nov last year.Additional district and sessions judge Ramanath Panda directed that the convict would have to undergo an additional 15 days in jail if he failed to pay the fine. The court also ordered the state govt to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to the survivor.

On Nov 22, 2025 around 6 pm, the woman was visiting the shrine with her mother, brother and other relatives when the convict allegedly behaved in an obscene and inappropriate manner with her.Following a complaint, police arrested the man and produced him before the court. After examining seven witnesses and material evidence, the court pronounced its verdict.
