Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Anjar municipality after a petition alleged bias by the civic officials against seven shop owners. The petition alleged that the shop owners’ establishments were demolished without a final order, whereas 33 other similarly situated shops remained untouched.One of the seven shop owners filed a petition in the HC through advocate Ronith Joy, who submitted that the seven shops in Anjar market were demolished after a show-cause notice was issued. No final order for demolition was passed, the petition alleged. The officials adopted a pick-and-choose approach to demolition, even though the shop owners paid the property tax regularly, the petition further alleged.It was also contended that the authority did not wait the 15 days after issuing a notice as mandated by the Supreme Court in one of its judgments regarding a demolition drive.After a preliminary hearing, Justice Aniruddha Mayee issued a notice and posted further hearing on Oct 5.
