Gandhinagar: The state govt will annually honour top-performing officials from seven citizen-facing departments under a new ‘Atal Good Governance Award’ scheme, with Class-I officers to receive a cash prize of Rs 31,000 and Class-II officers Rs 21,000.The scheme will be implemented from the financial year 2025-26, an official statement said on Monday. The performance assessment cycle will run from April 1 to March 31 every year, with the awards to be presented on Dec 25, observed as Good Governance Day to mark the birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.The scheme covers officials whose work has a direct bearing on public services at the district and taluka levels. The seven cadres identified for the awards are chief district health officers (Class I), district education officers/district primary education officers (Class I), executive engineers of the roads and buildings department (Class I), district supply officers (Class I), district sports officers (Class II), taluka development officers (Class II) and mamlatdars (Class II).Separate committees will evaluate officials on pre-defined performance indicators and criteria. For the first five cadres, the committees will be headed by the secretary of the respective department and include the head of the department and senior officials from the concerned establishment. For TDOs and mamlatdars, district-level committees headed by the district collector will assess their performance.The departments will have to complete the assessment by Nov 30 every year and send the names of the winners, award certificates and cheques to the GAD by Dec 10, the govt said.
